How it all began

I went to college to study HR management and during my junior year, I decided that I wasn’t going to work on that after college. I’ve discovered that design was my passion, that creativity is what drives me. And then it hit me.

I was influenced from a very early age by my mom. She taught me to draw, and she drew with me. She taught me to paint and use color pencils, and she colored with me. I didn’t realize any of that until I started questioning my decision to throw away all those years (and money) of a college education. I had inherited her skills and she taught me how to use them. I was meant to be a designer because of her, and I’m glad it’s been that way.

That was the beginning of what it is now my career in design. But that wasn’t it. While I was drawing and coloring, another woman was teaching me other things. My grandma was giving me something else to compliment my newly acquired skills: the art to help anyone who needs it, to be proud of where I come from and to be an honest man. She still teaches me that.

I want to dedicate my first story on Medium to those two women for being my lifetime teachers, and to all the women in the world that are the drivers for a better world, one child at a time. Feliz Dia Internacional de la Mujer / Happy International Women’s Day.
